National visa for highly qualified nationals of third countries

The Government of the Slovak Republic issued a regulation on December 14, 2021, in which it established that it is in the interest of the Slovak Republic to grant national visas to nationals of third countries who are graduates of:

a) university studies of the second level of a university in the Slovak Republic or in the Czech Republic,

b) university studies of the university listed in Annex no. 1 of the regulation or equivalent education according to the European qualification framework from the research institution listed in Annex no. 1 of this regulation. This list includes prestigious universities from all over the world, such as Harvard, Stanford, MIT, etc.

c) second or third degree university studies and will be employed by an employer in the Slovak Republic in the jobs listed in Annex no. 2. Annex no. 2 contains a list of jobs with high added value for the economy of the Slovak Republic, such as managers, IT professions, doctors, scientists and researchers as well as other professional professions such as electrical engineers etc.

The aim of this regulation is to support the transfer of highly qualified workers to Slovakia, who are lacking in Slovak companies. A national visa is a form of residence permit granted by the Slovak Republic, which entitles you to stay on the territory of the Slovak Republic. The national visa also entitles the holder to stay in the territory of other member states for a period of max. 90 days within any six-month period under the conditions set out in the Schengen Borders Code.

How long does it take to receive a decision on a visa application?

The representative office will decide on the application for the granting of a national visa within 30 days of its receipt . The representative office can grant a national visa only after the previous approval opinion of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic.
